i was taught that the amount of raw power the engine puts out is a function of both the combustion process and the rpm level. technically isn't it the product of the two? so increasing either would up the power, no? assuming you don't fall completely out of the power band, of course.

edit: that's been said so nevermind.

I shift at 6k, just as power drops, according to the dyno.

The 383 on build *should* generate good power the whole band. Roll-on TQ is at 330ftlbs @ 2000rpm and 460hp @ 6500rpm. Now that's the kind of motor I want to drive, strong the whole band.

r's do mean more power with the right cam\motor. that's why you'll see 5000-5500 stall converters in peoples weekend drag cars. but for a street car you want the power band lower and more useable/streetable with a v8. i have a hard time getting to 5,000r's on the streets without coming up on traffic. shit 8000r's is 106mph in second gear for me and 80mph @ 6000r's in second gear. my useable power is 2600-6300 and with a 3200 stall makes a nice 3000 rpm power band.

just tell them-- so, v8's don't need to rev high to make power unlike yours. if you call that power.

i see rice maxing the r's all the time. but they can get away with it since there not moving that fast.

wow im the poster of the "can your car rev to....blah blah blah" and damn i didnt think this reaction would come about

some of you are bitchen blah blah hp is better than high rev
some of you are bitchen blah blah torque is what you need cause high rev is a waste of time
others are stating power band is where you want to be high rev or not
others are stating some power bands are in high revs
and others are stating imports are gay and high reving is for fags

well the reason why i stated it is
1 my power band is from 5800-8200 at a redlin of 8600 at an 1100 idle
2 dual sidedraft webers are music to my ears at 7500+ rpm
3 most peoples' blocks can't rev that high without engine blow/fail

that is all

i have 140whp and damnit i use it to its full potential which is above 5800rpm

so all you domestic guys can hate and call ricer or whatever

but wtf

i have a 1500lb car with a 1600cc block with dual weber 40mm carbs 4-1 header with straight pipe all the way back, wiseco forged pistons, port and polish with 3angle valve job, msd 6al,msd ss blaster, msd wires, oem distributor, holley fuel pressure regulator, $2500 suspension setup (t3,trd,kyb agx), with a 4.3 gear ratio on a welded rear end, sparco/zfever/grant interior, along with other misc. money wasters

i love my car

its my baby

and i make sure i run it the way it is supposed to be run, just like you domestic guys run yours

i have no wing i have no fart can i have no 18 inch wheels with crazy body stylings

its an iron heart powered ugly box and i love it

so hate on it if you want but i know what im doin, just as you know what your doing

longer rpms or not,you only build power to a certain extent and theres no sense going that far,but then again i do know a kid who bought noahs red si with a gsr swap, and thinks its cool to show people 10 thousand rpms on the monster tach...u gotta just shake your head and not care

What revs high and has high hp: porsches, ferraris, supercars Racecars, F1, GT, Le mans, JGTC, any open wheel racecar... which are the ideal for performance, I bet the trans am series cars rev pretty high too, even gay ass nascar can rev to 8 grand before they shit the bed

What revs low and has a lot of tq: suv's, trucks, electric motors and diesels

What do you want your car to be more like

You forgot muscle cars in what revs low and has lots of tq. Seeing as I drive a muscle car, that's what I'd like it to be like. I see a lot of F1, GT, and Le Mans cars cruising the street too, you know, because having a power band >10,000rpm makes for excellent street use. Who cares about gas mileage too? Gas is only $2.50 a gallon for high test. Rev 'em up!
