Isnt that all AWD cars anyway?

edit - not nec. FWD, but only with two drive wheels unless needed.

the car is on some kind of management where the car suddenly switches from fwd to awd whenever you start to drive "spiritedly"

and from what i hear, the changeover isn't all that consistent or confidence inspiring... could be wrong though, i'm just going on hearsay

What kind of quality issues are you having/have you had with the 6? The 6 has always been a consideration of mine once I am ready to buy a new car again.

I'll go with hearsay for now since its not even out yet

I do hope they built the engine up some. I believe its the same as the 4 cyl as in the lower 6 and the higher 3 right? I would think they would have had to build it if its putting out 280lbs of torque from a 4 cylinder; even they can't balloon numbers badly enough to allow them to not have made a more sturdy engine. Who knows, hopefully we'll see it soon and hopefully I can catch a loan for one next year (after the 1st year bugs are worked out) if it can respond well to some simple bolt-ons.

Yeah it is based on the 2.3l Duratec 4-cylinder. Same motor can be found in various Ford/Mazda products (Focus, Ranger, Mazda 3). Great little all aluminum motor with a decent amount of potential if built correctly. Based on the article I read in Autoweek, Mazda states the internals have been strengthened a bit from the standard 2.3l. The compression was also slightly dropped for the Mazdaspeed version.

the direct injection allows it to run a lot of boost with relatively high compression from the factory because the gas being fired directly into the cylinder cools the intake charge. it runs 15.6 psi and 9.6:1 compression from the factory. the obvious solution to the injectors being in the combustion chamber is to set up additional normal-type injectors outside of the combustion chamber to supply additional fuel for added boost or more power production. with direct injection it will allow for much greater power numbers in street cars, especially boosted ones. i wouldnt be surprised to see people get at least 350 hp out of the MS6 comfortably and reliably. id definetly have one if i had the money!
