Default question about title, PLEASE HELP!!

ok im about to acquire a first gen mr2. the owner left it at a repair shop for some time and never came and claimed it. now my question is, will i be able to get a title for it??? i ran a carfax and all came back clean. i dont have the owners contact info or anything and i would really like to have this car while im working on my project. any help would be great..

One way you can get it is if the shop is owed for work on the car. If it is you can get a mechanic's lien on the car.

Then after a certain amount of time if the owner does not pay the bill you can get the title to the car.

fathead, you can do what 0HP930 suggested or you can send away to Tallahassee for a title. If you want I can give you the address and tell you what todo.

The DMV procedures are here. I'm guessing you'll need to file under TL-25. You still don't get it outright. You put a lien against the vehicle for the amount owed you (for labor/storage/etc), it goes to auction, then what ever portion of the sale price covers the lien goes to you and the rest to the original owner.
