o5 Lancer Evolution RS or WRX
I'd personally end up getting either a base EVO or EVO RS with Urban Jungle package and get a CF wing for it--C&D/MT recently tested all 3 EVOs on the track, and although the RS was cheaper, it also had a bunch more oversteer without the wing (probably because less weight and less downforce) and actually came about a half second behind the base EVO. Plus its a factory stock wing and personally it doesnt look so bad on it.
Of course, I have a DSM friend who pushed his influence on me, but I'll admit the WRX is cool too. Definetly different...TMIC and flat 4, an obvious contender otherwise...overall I'd pick the RS. WITH A/C.

For all the uninformed who love to post BS.. There was never an RS, within the US, that was sold without A/C. The JDM EVO RS had no A/C; but ALL the RSs imported to the US were fitted with A/C.
As for the posters question, the Evo all the way! I've had mine for about a year now, have been modding it fairly heavily, and have had no issues. If you want some information about the evo go check out evolutionm.net.
Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about evos. I've worked on a lot of them in the area, and know most of the people around that own them.

RS' were sold in the United States without air conditioning.
The evolution8 has a better powerplant and a better transmission. Guys are making well over 500whp on the stock bottom end and very few problems have been reported when everything is tuned correctly. Subaru's are a nice car when left stock or close to stock but i wouldn't spend a lot of money modifying one.
here is a direct quote from one of many magazines that tested the RS.
Its lighter because it comes with manual door locks, no AC and no sunroof...etc...etc.
link: http://www.autoweek.com/article.cms?articleId=100811
"The RS is a Lancer less 146 pounds of a/c, ABS, radio, most of its sound-deadening material and wing. It gets a new front helical limited-slip diff and stiffening material that weighs 101 pounds, so the net savings are just 45 pounds for a curb weight of 3218 pounds. Still, it’s the most race-ready and performance-prepped Evolution made."

plenty of STi's have also broke into the 500whp on the stock block. limited issues. tuned very well. the STi tranny is pretty damn strong also.
Show me a list of WRX's that have gone this fast with STOCK transmissions.

And show me a WRX that has gone 123mph with the STOCK turbo/STOCK transmission.
