Don't waste your money with BBK
This past sunday while driving down the road, I all of a sudden have no throttle. Well I coast to a stop on a side street and pop the hood. When I opened the hood, a part of the tb shaft and my throttle cable are laying off to the side of the tb. The shaft snapped where one of the screws attach to the tb blade. Well today I call BBK. I didn't expect any kind of warranty from them since the tb is almost 4 years old. Even though it only has about 20k miles on it. Well first I ask if I can just get a replacement part to fix my tb. They tell me they can't because of liability issues. So I said thats fine. Well I then ask if I could send them the tb and still they so no. The guy tried telling me there may have been changes to the parts so there is no way they can fix it. I don't know about you guys, but I can't imagine there is much of a difference in how the tb was made in 2001 and now. Even if there were some changes, how drastic could they be? Either way, I was pretty disapointed in the attitude of the first person I talked with. I am lucky that this thing broke at part throttle and not full throttle. It might not have closed back. There is no way I will ever buy a part from this company ever.
I am glad I didn't buy this in the first place.

wow that sucks man. So it was just a weak link that connects the shaft to the screws?
if you let me look at it I might be able to machine you up a replacement that is more than likely stronger since they probably used a cast part or something

Yeah pretty much, I am just glad it didn't happen at full throttle. It probably would not have shut. I might take you up on your offer. I will let you know.
one thing for sure, if I do fix the tb, I will make sure the bbk is machined off of it.
thanks

Well, every manufacturer on the face of this planet from doorknob manufacturers to areospace manufacturers have stories like this. It is all part of the game and to be expected as nothing is absolutely fool proof, bulletproof or without error once and again.
I've had a good run with BBK. Any of the parts I have used from them in my past Mustangs (no matter how new to the market they were when purchased) have been good. Even parts that I had used on multiple vehicles for years and years have lasted beyond what I expected. Their clutch quadrants/ect... for Mustangs I have had great logevity out of along with overly abused suspension pieces all without failure. Their longtube headers for N/A DOHC 99-01 Cobras exceeded my expectations, fit great and made a massive amount of power with no leaks (going from 280 rwhp to 320rwhp with just the longtubes/cats impressed me a bit to say the least).
So just take into account that one individual with a negative random experiance will speak louder than 10 people with positive experiances. It's just human nature to take the one bad and believe that it will apply to you. I don't blame you guys for doubting it, I would too if I hadn't had countless years of great experiances with their products and service.

I should add that my BBK experiance is not without flaws. The TB's for the 4 valve Cobras used to stick severely. It was since corrected, but it didn't put me off.
Oh, and to anyone who purchases an aftermarket TB, take the throttle plate screws out and loctite the crap out of them. I've always done this. Jerm's post just brought back part of my paranoia.
