"SCNews is reporting certain models of Lexus have been found with corrupted operating systems in their on-board computers. Evidently the virus got transferred through the Bluetooth interface. It's still unclear whether or not the computers run Symbian."

Lexus cars may be vulnerable to viruses that infect them via mobile phones. Landcruiser 100 models LX470 and LS430 have been discovered with infected operating systems that transfer within a range of 15 feet.
"If infected mobile devices are scary, just thinking about an infected onboard computer..," said Eugene Kaspersky, head of anti-virus research at Russian firm Kaspersky. "We do know that car manufacturers are integrating existing operating systems into their onboard computers (take the Fiat and Microsoft deal, for instance)."
It is understood the virus could affect the navigation system of the Lexus models, it transfers onto them via a Bluetooth mobile phone connection. It is still unclear whether the cars in question use the Symbian operating system which has recently been under attack from various worms and viruses.
"At this stage it's still early but it just goes to show that technology has consequences," said David Emm, senior technology consultant at Kaspersky. "It's scary stuff."
Vulnerable operating systems are increasingly moving onto a number of different devices. Last year the Slammer worm infected 13,000 Bank of America ATMs as a result of them moving to a Windows-based operating system.
"I've even seen screenshots of major commercial aeroplanes with Windows 2000-based operating systems," said Mikko Hypponen, director of anti-virus research at Finnish firm F-Secure. "Cars are an obvious target for viruses. It's okay if you don't use the operating system for the engine and the brakes, but when you do..."
Bill Gates is a known Lexus driver. In 1999 he auctioned one for charity.
When contacted Lexus declined to comment.

I posted about the symbian OS the other day no one seemed to know what i was talking about... I use it and love it mostly because i can make my own programs and the open source..... Virus's are becoming a big problem becasue people are seeing how easy it is to make simple programs.It would be nice to just walk up to a new lexus or acura and hear the doors pop open because your using a brute force or (vin- generated) known unlock codes for that make/model.... sounds like a after school project. lol

+3 on F Bank of America I really dont care for them at all, since they bought Fleet whom I had a CC with its gone all to hell. So much so I closed the account, which didnt seem to bother them at all so all the better.

I wanna know who bought the Lexus Bill Gates auctioned off. He still has a royal/navy blue 97 LS 400 built like a tank that his nanny or someone still uses.
The glass is 4 inches for front and rear windsheild, the door windows are two inches thick, every body panel on the car has been replaced with bulletproof material of some sort, and has lead plates covering the bottom of it.
The car door is sooo heavy, when you open them, it drops three inches. He used to have a motor on the door to open and close it for him because of the weight, but he came home one day and it knocked his daughter across the garage floor when she came up to greet him. Motor was prompty removed.
The car weighs so much, (they had to upgrade the braking system obviously) that it has to come in for service every 3000 miles and get new brake pads. Every 15000 miles for new rotors.
When I worked at Lexus, I swear I saw that car in there for service every three weeks for new pads and an oil change.
