Just a little word of advice to the thread starter. If you happen to cut open an oil filter, don't sweep your finger around "feeling" for metal shavings. I read about a dumbass doing this and gashing two of his fingers open badly. Required alot of stitches and time to heal, due to the location of the stitches. He kept ripping hte stitches back open because they were around the joint areas on his fingers.

Some of the metal shavings can be seen, and some are really small and almost impossible to see. Either way, they can be sharp as hell.
