I've heard the 13B can be reliable as long as two things are taken care of.

1.) Enough fuel so the engine won't run lean.
2.) Enough to cool the engine down.

Supra, they are awesome cars. So are the RX-7s, but that engine just has some major issues.

Also need some thicker Apex seals to hold more power. (3 mm ones). Rotaries are a pain in the ass though, even when properly built and maintained, they still go down with problems. Definently not a car for the mechanically challenged or those looking for a reliable daily driver. They make great weekend "fun" cars though. Definently a blast to drive.

Kirk is right about the Supra's 6 speed being strong. The Getrag is about as bullet proof as the engine itself. The automatic on the other hand, can only handle BPU type power levels (which will be more than enough power for most people on these boards), before needing to be rebuilt or replaced. (Higher stall, etc.)

It's a no-brainer really, the Supra is the better car, if you can afford one.

RX-7 looks....just wow..Mk4 is awesome too, but FD has its own thing going on there...also, FD is a "sports car" and the Supra is a "grand tourer". All FDs are TT, whereas about 1/2 Mk4s are TT. FDs are much lighter, Supras are "more reliable" and probably a bit safer too. Both have incredibly smooth engines, but I think nothing is smoother than a rotory

However, when it comes down to it, FDs cost less than half (most of the time). The rest of the money could go towards mods, reliability, whatever. Just your preference really.

and rebuilding it. F that.

You cannot argue with the 2JZ-GTE (no shit!) . Spend 7-8 Thousand on a nice Single upgrade and supporting fuel & engine management modifications and you're fucking set.

The FD is a beautiful car, but unfortunately is powered by an unreliable engine that has more little bells and whtistles to break than god knows what. I dont deny the fact that they can make tons of power....they just cant do it reliably nor make as much as the supra has the potential to.

Have you owned a rotary before? Could you say for yourself whether or not it needs rebuilding? Thats like being too pussy to get a DSM *just* because some of them get crank walk. Same could be said for MkIII Supras, if you are a fucking retard and dont retorque the head properly until you get a MHG and studs, then you're going to get a BHG. Its avoidable on MkIIIs, and (again, assuming your not a complete fuck) if you were to take care of your 13B, I'd think that you wouldnt need to rebuild it nearly as soon, if at all
