engine lab

work = good
customer service = not good

if there was a way for me to circumvent/bypass having to deal with the front office, i would be a return-customer... however, i dont forsee that being a possibility. the guys in the back do great work there and are pretty knowlegable about stuffs... however, the bureacracy and such that happens in the front office is the reason why i wont bring anything back. sorry.

If you want to have your engine work done at the best shop in the region you should let us do it.

If you want to compromise in order to save some money or stay close to home that is your choice to make.

I would at least recommend you visit us and whatever other shop you have in mind before you make your decision. That way you will know exactly what you are getting for your money.
I asked the guy at Engine Lab about a Saturday drop off. The guy on the phone was like, "Well, I don't know. You better be serious blah blah blah because it's a drive for me." I'm a customer, I don't want to hear shit like that when I'm offering up a few hundred dollars of business. Sure, I bet that shop gets so much business to the point of where I'm insignificant, but hey, I'm still a customer!

Also, I work 9-5, just like most Americans. So how am I supposed to get an engine there unless it's on the weekend? It would make more sense for them to be open on the weekends and closed Monday and Tuesday or something.

+1

I just posted my last reply before reading this. I heard their work is fantastic, but the guy on the phone seemed pretty disinterested in my business.

Fichtner's seems like it gets the win. They have a good price and were very helpful on the phone. I guess I don't need to slot my block to drop a roller cam in it afterall according to the guy.

their hours arent conducive to the average working joe... it was an hour drive without rushour traffic for me... i ususally worked 9-6pm, m-f... id ahve to ASK for a day off to make a special trip to engine lab. they had my motor for such a long time because simply could not come out there to drop off necessary parts during the hours that they were open... i would get lucky once in a while and catch someone there on teh weekend, but besides that... youd have to take a day off work to go out there.

they need either later hours or someone to work weekends... and not this half-day stuff either.

the average person who needs to have an engine built is the kind of person who doesnt get week-days off. its the blue collar worker that has 1st shift so they can be home with their family after work/school and save weekends for the chores.

Good customer Service Goes a long way too bad engine labs lacks in that area.

Lets us know how Fichtner's goes!

I'll definitely let you guys know. Also, the guy at Southern Racing or whatever was very nice and helpful on the phone too, and he'd be there on Satuday. He's working on a 7-10 day turnaround time right now though and he's about $100 more expensive than the other place.

Its a 'you get what you pay for' market so the extra $100 may be worth it.

It all boils down to how good the equipment is and how skilled its operators are so you should have both give you the 5 cent tour to see how well their operation is run and the condition of their equipment. That would be my choice on how to decide between two shops, not just the $ difference and/or turnaround time though those are other important factors.
