in a car with an automatic transmission where the gear shift is. what is the L for?

planning on shifting an Auto?...i wouldnt do it, all it will do is ware the hell outa it, and then soon enough it will start to slip..and will shift crappy.

 

 

i had lots of auto cars. whenever i want to get on it, i shift them manually. i've never had any trany problems yet. blew a few motors.

 

lol how bad is it to put it in N, rev it up a little to 2-3k and then slam it in Drive? ives always wondered, but dont really wanna try it on my car all the time,

ive done it once by mistake, i had hit the shifter into N and dint notice it then tried to go, but didnt move, i was like wtf looked down and seen it in N, slammed it down to D at around 1500RPM and the back tires chirped and i took off, lol
