General Car Chat Talk about cars in general. All makes and models - strictly car discussion.

If building a car was artwork, IMO this is a masterpiece...

Then say so up front

I doubt the original person asking has any intentions of making a trailered drag car or assembling a second set of drag-specific wheels with huge flexing sidewalls.

"15" is the best for traction"

Let me finish it for you,

"...for launching in a straight line, when combined with a proper tire, and it will be a piece of floaty crap to drive around any corner in a spirited way."

You didn't even ask the dude what his intended use was.

Orion ZyGarian, if you want more traction from a well-rounded street car, daily driver, autocross car, or road race car that a) you're not trying to break into the 11s with and b) will retain the stock rolling diameter so that your speedometer and mileage counter are not affected, go with the lightest wheels you can find in a size that is 1" bigger than stock and buy appropriate tires to keep the rolling diameter the same as the stock setup. As you feel necessary, add an inch to the width if you can fit them into your wheel wells. And remember that the weight of your tires is FAR more important to consider than the weight of your rims for acceleration purposes, since the weight is the farthest from the center of the wheel (it has the most inertia).

Impressive kickslop. I should have been more clear with my initial statement. And yes I would agree with what you said about wheel size to chose.

BTW - Don't all of nascar, formula one and most road circuit cars also use 15" rims?

Formula 1 and NASCAR wheels are under strict regulation restrictions.

Examine any similar racing type without those restrictions, or greatly inflated "max size" restrictions. There's a reason almost every WRC car runs 18" wheels on tarmac rallys

I have toned down alot. I just like trying to see how much I can get out of people. Alot of people have good knowledge but when you try to pry it out by telling them they are wrong sometimes they flip out.

BTW Nice pictures from JGTC

Dammit..so I was 'right' the first time with the 17" Kosei K1 TS?

I just figured the tread would matter more than the weight...I had 'planned' Kosei's all around, BFGoodrich g-Force T/As in front and g-Force T/A Drag radials in back. I doubt I'll see 11s in this project. Most of it would be highway/interstate performance (read performance, not races) and also for drag racing at BMP. Eventually, once or twice I wouldnt mind trying out an auto x just to experiment, but I never know where they are or anything

Also, I've heard of filling up the tire with nitrogen instead...the K1 TS rim has dual purge valve things for it...what do you know about the subject?

Also, while I'm at it, what exactly is "offset" and how wide should the rim be? I'm seeing 7" from Tire Rack and the official site says up to 8" (which is actually a bit lighter) or 9"..btw I am VERY thankful for your guys' help.
