If u do the math. thats 171,615 Miles before you pay off the (extra) cost of the hybrid

I highly doubt most of the people with hybrids will even go that far!

I am sure it will also go the 171,615 miles without having one problem.

I would like to add an additional benefit of hybrid. Not only do you invest in the future of less US dependence on fuckholes like Saudi Arabia and other OPEC countries, but you also make less trips to the pumps which means more free time for you. In other words, you probably cut the total time at the pumps almost in half for the life of the car ownership. This comes from the fact you probably only need to refuel twice a month for the distances you travel instead of say four times per month w/ traditional engines. Whats your time worth? I think hybrids are great investments.

Also, they also have better resale value.

Which proves that it is hype, however it can work for you.

We still need to wait a few years for technology to help take over. For instance, the Insight is MUCH better than the 1G Prius IMO. However, I like the 2G more so than the Insight.

Funny how they made their own record for fastest hybrid...(EDIT: 134, just found it by accident ). They need a hybrid race team, so we can laugh at how slow they are

Assuming they use stock conservationist motors, aka F-heads

if you think you need to take out a loan to get gas, then quit working at McDonalds and get a real job. Gas prices dont bother me one bit and if you get a hybrid have fun with a new battery.......

+1

IMO hybrids just aren't cost effective and I wouldn't be willing to swallow the cost of improving the future of America when I see tons of suv's out there getting 5-10mpg. They are the source of the problem.

And before anyone mentions it .. my car gets 17-18mpg in the city when I can keep my foot out of it, 16-17 when I can't.

you could probably find a geo for about 500 bucks, then you wouldnt have to drive your car 160,000 just to start saving

Yeah, a good friend of mine bought a nice lil Del Sol manual off of eBay, since he figured it to be a better investment then driving his F-150 Lariat w/topper to and from work everyday, which is 60+ miles or so a day
