gap between pad and rotor

I still don't get it wouldn't there be excessive wear and eventually there will be a gap?

because every time you hit the brakes the piston moves out that super small fraction of an inch.

why are you asking this anyway?

pads are in constant contact with the rotor, just with no pressure placed on them until you hit the brakes.
