The filters you want are 'SDF'

From this quote it seems the K&N is better than the amsoil:

"...other excellent candidates would be Hastings, K&N, and Purolator PremiumPlus. All three of these filters flow just as well or better than the Mercruiser, have better filtration, and give the added benefit of more media / increased sump capacity. The Amsoil would have to be another viable candidate since it filters much better than the Mercruiser and it flows almost as well."

The K&N flows a bit better, but has less filtration ability.

The screwdriver is the most fun, of course.
I also hand tighten my oil filters, but sometimes they just get stuck on there. The oil filter on my Scion is a bitch to get to with an oil filter wrench or with the ghetto screwdriver stabbing technique (had to use to remove the factory filter). The K&N works perfectly should I need something other than my hand to take off the filter.

I think I might start using the K&N. All they have at discount by me is Pureone, K&N, and Fram. I refuse to use fram so Pureone is the only other choice if I don't go with K&N. I like the Mazda OEM ones but then I have to go to the dealer everytime I change my oil, which is pretty often. I have heard that its best to change your filter every other oil change, is this true? Even with the $10 oil filter it makes oil changes come out to about $20 which is good considering I'm using premium products.

I use a k+n filter on my bike, seems to be doing pretty good and is easier to get off with the nut on the end....

Exactly what I'm thinking. I just spent thousands on my engine and it has 250 miles on it total.
