Not always the case. The Slocus picked up quite a bit of power (with a nice increase in torque) with an eliminated cat via a 4-1 race header and 2.5" exhaust. Sounded suprisingly good too.

So does a high flow CAT "look" like a regular CAT with a large whole through the middle surrounded by the honey comb material?

I doubt the test pipe will get rid of the sound your describing.. Will sound different but not get rid of the rasping bat bat bat...

I know from experience.. but your case may be different.

Yeah I don't think the test pipe will accomplish anything. Friend got the same sound on his civic with one. I think the H/F CAT or even the regular cat and doing what I talked about will do the trick.

and i am here to say that the one that you are talking about does NOT work and you should just get a test pipe... you will know it doesnt work if you have a car that runs two o2 sensors... you will start throwing a code as soon as you put it on the car...

He's OBD1 so he should'nt be throwing any codes. He's running a stock header to a hollowed out cat with 2 1/4 straight piping all the way back to a RSX Type S Muffler. He heeds something to resonate the sound before it exits. I've seen bolt in resonator chambers.
