Exactly, when I put my motor together for my old mustang, I started it, let it idle for about 5 minutes while setting the timing, messing with the carb, and looking for any leaks, backed it out and let it eat N/A. Loaded it on a trailer the next morning, took it to Atlanta, took it off the trailer, sprayed the shit out of it in front of the hotel, went to sleep, got up the next morning and took 2nd in the true street class, never had a problem with that motor. If it's gonna break, it's gonna break.

Edit: For those that don't know, true street involves a 30 mile cruise (break in ) and three back to back passes averaged together.

Are you joking? I don't get it huh? I guess paying all that money for a valve job was a waste since they wear in, rings seat in quickly and if not, alittle load will only speed there break in.

What needs to heat cycle? About the only part that changes with heat(other than oil) is pistons, are you saying the pistons need brake in too?

^^^ agreed.

Besides, Block temp increases pretty rapidly from the initial fire, it wouldnt take too much longer than a couple mins to be a prime Temp for the metal to be fully expanded

the block needs to go through a heat cycle. espically if it is aluminum block. you ever hear about heating a bare block before assembly to run tighter tolerances

yes you can do that but you are going to have larger tolerances in the motor and there fore lose compression

I just took my motor apart i built freash and never broke it in i let it run 20mins in the driveway drained the oil put freash in then ran it to 130mph 45mins after i started it with all new bearings rings pistons, seals well i just took it out 3days ago it now has 1300miles on it from 6months of driving mostly high speed bridge and work driveing and man my bearings are still flawless the rings are perfect not one problem from it and so clean i think break in should just let it run for 30mins at idel then soft driveing for a day thats it well at least for a 4Cyl
