Default Clean trend?

I've noticed a lot of TR members and car ppl in general lately violently resisting all kinds of "mods". I Just finished reading one thread on here and ppl post things like "carbon fiber hoods are gay unless on a track only car or all black car"

so whats the new trend, showroom stock everything but engine?

seems like ANY kind of cosmetic modification has become a huge no no.. Including functional bodykits, or wings (for RWD).

I know guys with fully built civics but they have to have those stock honda civic wheels that are lite.. from an HX? whatever. because anything else is "ghay"
I don't know about you but if I got a 18 second car to run mid 13's I'd sacarifice .00003 seconds to completely change the visual appeal of my car. Im not talking 18" chrome, some TE37's or something NICE.

lets say money wasn't an object and you just dropped a huge turbo and FMIC into your car. would you rather butcher the stock front bumper of whatever car you drive or get a nice FUNCTIONAL front facia with a larger surface area for the intercooler?

I don't ever want to sacarifice performance to look good but why look like shit if you don't have to. You have to question wether they actually like the "stock civic" or are they too dull to do something different. /rant

I'm a fan of carbon fiber and dont concider myself a ricer. I just think some people take it too far (hell I know I do alot)

If it looks good and you like it, great. If you post about it asking opinions your going to get opinions. Would I put a Mk4 Supra spoiler on an Mk3? Yes, if it looked good. Would I put a CF F-1 racing type spoiler on there if I had crappy traction? Yes. Would I put CF aftermarket side mirrors on because they looked good? Yes.

Bottom line, people need to chill a bit. If theres a bit of cosmetics on it and its not an N/A DSM, N/A neon, Honda, etc. chances are the guy/girl liked it and put it on to make him express himself and stand out. Hell I've seen a yellow Z06 at BMP with a big ol' titanium style wing, but I didnt think its rice. Its okay to look good!

I would hope not..seeing as the the aerodynamics of the wing do nothing when launching the car...

the problem is that half the time, people half ass things. Half a kit, shitty paint job, wrong offset wheels, small brakes, big wing on fwd car, big wing on any car. These things are what people hate. If you have big wheels, you should have big brakes, otherwise it's half assed. Wheels shouldnt be sunk under or stick out from the car, and should be tasteful in general. Then again, you could have ALL of these things and have it be overdone. The worst thing I think is people that build their car with no sense of purpose or goal whatsoever. Those are the cars that stick out the worst
I agree 110%

I have 17'" wheels on my 200SX which has improved the handling greatly, but it also has dwarfed my rotors. I'm going to spare you the story about the ordeal I went through trying to upgrade my brakes. but I have more than enough bite for the HP I'm running.

There is a huge difference between a "clean" ride and rice.

Tasteful mods to the exterior of your car are not frowned upon at all.

keeping stock body parts in lieu of something that looks good and performs better is rediculous. people are actually willing to sacarifice performance to look "clean"

their is a big difference in clean and rice.

THeir can be lots done to a car to make it look different than showroom, and still look clean.

However a lot of the time, people cheap out and buy shitty products, and "rice" their car out..

It's hard to explain. it's just something you know
