Default holes in bumper

Friday at the track I heard a girl asking why some of the cars have holes drilled into the bumpers. So a guy, I guess she was with, told her it was for wind resistance for interstate driving/racing and that only the fast cars have them. So she sees a car pull a faster time them the "real fast" cars with holes in the bumper. She asks, "Why doesn't that that car have holes in the bumper"? "It was a lot faster then the one with holes".

So by this time Im thinking to myself that these people cant be serious and are just Nick and Jessice Simpson in disguise. Because they sound too stupid to be taken serious.

Could someone humor me as to why people put holes in their bumper..........on purpous?

Alot of it can be atributed to weight reduction. Less weight, faster times. Usually. But not always depending on setup. Sometimes, the turbo is so damn huge that the bumper is cut to allow more air in. For better answer, go up to the drivers and ask.

street-driven cars with holes in the rear bumper, in my opinion, are retarded.

+1... the plastic bumper total weighs like 2lbs, it is the metal behind the plastic that weighs the most. Just take off the bumper

The intake could be ducted into the bumper, rather than taking hot air from the engine? Please...tell me it isn't weight reduction.

Default um.....

a while back i asked the same question to the guys at Cybernation Motorsports down in Ft.Lauderdale. when i saw it on their integra...they said the same thing its just for wind resistance to "try"and get a better time at the track...just one of those "little things u can" do to shave sec.'s of your times i guess.

Seconds? Holy crap! I'm going to go cut up my 5.0 right now!

Seriously though. If your car is actually fast the "speed holes" in the rear bumper would help with aerodynamics if your going 120+ ... any less and I think they would be useless at the track.
