Get a beatR truck, destroy it and then get something you'll appreciate. If you have crap as your first car, there is no place to go but up. Regardless, you'll feel like your first car could wipe out John Force even if it is a 3 cyl Metro running on 1 cyl. 13 years of driving has taught me that. If you get a fast car right off the bat, you won't learn anything.

i have a maxima, its my 2nd car, i love it. yeah my parents helped me pay for it, im 18, but still, for the money, reliability, fun to drive, etc its awesome, plus its real roomy for friends or whatever. mods are definitely not gonna be as cheap as hondas n stuff but whatever.

my first car was my dads 1990 piece o crap bmw, yea i said piece o crap bmw, 273k miles, seats ripping and falling apart, etc, still ran good, i expected it to keep running for a long time til i unexpectedly rear ended a blazer goin like 40 and totalled it. itll happen, even if u dont think it will, cuz i was the same way.

probably go with somethin cheap and reliable tho like civic or 240, and ull still have money leftover for mods. good luck

I would suggest something with 4 doors or at least a 2-door with a big back seat. Most likely you will be giving rides to your friends or at least taking them places.

My first car was a Legacy Turbo wagon, which was super-sweet. It was plenty fast and easy to control with the AWD. It also had oodles of cargo capacity and decent gas mileage.

Nissan Altima, Sentra, Maxima, or 240sx would all be good for a first car, as well as Honda Civic, Accord, or Integra or Toyota Tercel, Corolla, Celica, and MA70 Supra. Just about all of these cars can take 100k miles with no problem and will be good for another 100k with regular oil change and good care. Toyota, Nissan and Honda are all great manufacturers and their cars can be tuned up to be sportier and still run without problems.

I would stay away from Mazda rotaries or high-power cars like 300ZX, last gen. Supra, etc. becase as a new driver, it is natural to have the tendency to drive fast and these cars can get you in a lot of trouble.

If you don't really care about giving rides do your friends, you could always get a CRX, del sol, Miata, or MR2. With Hondas especially, there are a plethora of people willing to help you learn about them and show you how to work on them. After market parts for Hondas are super cheap when compared to Nissan or Toyota parts as well.

Whatever you get, make sure that there is no rust and that it has been relatively well kept.

remember to drive safe!

be diff. and get a 240? thats mostly what i see now-a-days. I agree with staying away from the 300zx, supra, conquest/starion categories due to high maintenence, and easy to screw up your license one way or another.
Im not a fan for hondas, but i do like the older preludes the 2.0Si's i would die for one. I had a mazda mx6 turbo, 1st gen very very very very reliable and they are pretty quick too. no need to make it go faster even though you can, but still its nice, comfortable, parts are cheap and its faster than any stock civic. I had a non-turbo one before i had the turbo one and got into an accident...a bad one, im sure that car saved my life had it been anything else who knows, the car is very responsive and with its active suspension controlling: thumbs up!: i wouldnt go for toyota just as yet, the parts are expensive and insurance is also higher with toyotas because parts are more expensive for them than anyother car maker out there.

SHHHHhhhh about the MX-6. Let em know they're any good, and then THEY will want to buy them all!

The AAS is nice, but the struts are like $300 each. Most just replace them when they wear out with aftermarket stuff.

Good to hear that the car held up well in an accident. It felt like a bigger car than the CRX I had at the time, and much more...refined than the Tempo.

Of course, 2 minor accidents later, and 38,000 miles later, the Tempo is still in my driveway.

illsyn hahaha thats funny, but he should get a "good luck" when finding a first gen turbo, they are hard to find like a bastard, and when you do they dont want to sell, theres a mint condition one driving around where i am and she wont sell for top dollar haha.
In my accident i was going 60mph in the winter around a highway bend just exiting a corner of a bridge, someone nudged me in the back-end, and i slowly started to slide, at 60mph in a FWD you wouldnt be able to correct it on ice/snow so i let it go and tryed my best to keep it in a straight line going backwards...then the road turned and *BAM* gaurdrail...car...totalled...my rear wheel was at the back of my seat. I went to the junkyard a year ago and all 3 of previous cars were in a line haha, one accident, one junker, and one blown up haha.
