defintion of a "BOLT ON"
What is the true definition of bolt on parts??
I am thinking like air intakes or a "bolt on turbo" what do they mean by that?
does it mean that is made for that car and no modifications necessary??
THat is what i am thinking

to me, bolt ons are any mod that doesnt require you to open the engine up. everyone has their own opinion though, but to me you have "internal mods" and "external mods", external being bolt ons.

This is the internet. You're just supposed to talk up whatever you do know as if you're a salesman for it. i.e. I drive a Supra and a Corolla therefore 2JZ is the greatest and so is the 4A and I don't care about anything else because it's all crap since I don't have it. I also have a stack of $20 bills in front of me, therefore 20>50 and 20>100 and 20>1000. $20 bill FTW.
generally speaking, a BOLT ON part would be one that BOLTS ON. intake, exhaust, manifolds, pre-fab turbo kits, etc...

It is open to interpretation, I mean you do bolt in a steel crank and oliver rods, don't you? I think it is as Accord95 said, you don't have to open up the engine. But then the arguement could be made that "I just took my aluminum heads out of the box and bolted them on" and then alot of "bolt on" parts actually need a little fabrication. I guess my point is there are no true bolt on parts, and every performance part is bolt on, there, did I help you any?

Agreed with Corey...I look at bolt-ons as external to the long block. I'll usually take it one step further and consider large scale items not bolt-ons, like a turbo kit for example, basically keeping bolt-ons as simple parts...intake, pulleys, etc...
in no way can a turbo kit for a non turbo car ie honda, non sr nissian, etc be called a bolt-on you need to tap the oil pan for oil lines thats not a bolt on when you need to weld. as bolt is just what it says a bolt-on nothing else needed no welding, no cutting, no custom fab.
