Default When a bolt on turbo kit goes wrong

This is a guy from another forum I go to regularly (a Mercedes tuner forum)

At any rate, he too has a turbo C220 that he tracks. Except unlike mine, he built his engine to handle high boost. Here are some pics...

Exhaust after port & polish:

Intake after port & polish (but not totally finished yet):

Custom fab/install of MB factory oil jets from a late model Kompressor engine, which should help ensure that those sweet new Venolia pistons stay cool.

Intake with throttle body, compnents, and fuel rail. Note the nice new RC Engineering injectors, which allow a bit more flow than the stockers did

Cams in, and timing chain on! The 16 stiff new custom made Crower valve springs and titanium caps & retainers lurk just underneath.

The long-block back together again and ready to roll out for the install.

The engine & tranny back in the car, the HKS ball-baring turbo & header back on... progress

Love to see the RC Engineering injectors installed.

THEN FINALLY, on the day he gets his car back, he is getting ready to take it to the track, when the unimaginable happens....

What happened? We don't know yet, but I suggested that it mught be that he did not remove the sound deadening material from the engine bay, and that the turbo/manifold heat ignitied it. He agrees but its too soon to tell.

Its a shame b/c he is a cool kid and put tons of $$$ into that Mercedes.

I agree, Crower should stick to domestic Iron. This includes staying away from Foci.
