Default are you all rich or how does this work?

ok. my plan for next year is to get out of my 98 200SX, step up to a 240SX, and swap a DET.

*flame warning*
I've been into Nissan and the like for about eh.. 9 YEARS NOW. I'm new here but not new to the game. I've never owned anything but Nissans and wouldn't want it any other way. Nice seeing Nissan get their well deserved props now in the wake of the huge Honda thing.

my question is, are you guys with the DET swaps and the 10 grand under the hood normal ppl or rich? I make about $12 an hour and my bills aren't too bad, but to get into such a project is very non-cost-effective for me. Doesn't mean I won't do it, I just can't figure out how. I don't have credit cards, not an option. No way do I want to take a personal loan out and pay that interest rate thats just crazy, and with auto loans they only finance what a cars worth, not additional $$$ to do engine work and the like. So is it live like a peasant for the next year or what? how do you guys do it? are you all rich??? any insight as to how you guys finance your addiction would be nice to hear

Figure out where you want to be in 3, 5 and 10 years.
Then figure out how to get there.
Then do it.

My best advice is to invest in yourself.

so... just be prudent eh guys? well, this year coming up should be my year. my real problem is living in an apartment w/ no garage or tools I'd have secret services or XAT do the install probably. I just hate spending all that $$$ and not even learning anything.

hopefully I can build a rapor w/ one of those shops and they'll let me hang out and learn something during the install.

Its not a hard swap but the wiring is the tricky part, you might want John and the boys over there to do all the work. that way its done right, plus while its over there you can have them tune it on the dyno and crank out some nice numbers. You will learn alot about your car when it breaks lol. I know i have.

"invest in yourself"

thats great advice, as well as all you other guys advice.

you know thats also true about car payments, but it go's both ways. I mean, I could go to Nissan and get a SE-R SpecV right now or whatever and the dealership would be foaming at the mouth to finance it for me. but on the other hand I can't afford a freekin 89 240SX and a engine swap w/ the basic essentials (FMIC, clutch etc..) on my own cause I'd have to save 10G's cash when all is said and done. just doesn't make sense to me really (the fact that the more expensive cars are easier to aquire).

well the only reason more xpensive newer cars are easier to get is solely because of financing. Dont ever finance a project car. Your best bet if u wanna do a DET swap is just start saving, save 10K and do it the right way, in the long run it'll pay off...
