Question Help with Headers

hey guys I have a question I know that putting new headers on my 01 mustang GT will give me a good increase in HP but I am kind of confused with them.

See I bought a BBK off road X- pipe ( which is on back order so that sucks but ) and I was going to get some flowmasters to add to it but I wanted to finish the system with a nice set of headers but here is what I don't get.

They have headers that are short and some that are long whats the diff? What do you get better than the other one? And what does that mean for my X pipe if I get long tubes? does that mean I will have to cut the X pipe to make the long tubes fit?

If anyone has any help they can give it would help me alot and if you all know any brands that are good thats has given you all good HP gains and sound let me know that also.

Thanks

Well, the only ones that will fit your X-pipe are going to be shorties. Shorties are the same length as your stock headers, but are way less restrictive. Long tubes are full length headers and they go all the way down to underneath the car, you will then need a different X-Pipe or have to have yours modified to fit them. Bassani has some mid length headers out now which is the way I'm going to go. You get great gains with them without having to pull a header to do a clutch.

As for the differences in both, basically you will get more low end torque from LT's, but you may sacrifice some upper RPM HP. Hope this helps.

Long tubes are the way to go but not very fun to install (actually not that bad if you pull the K-frame...just ask BiteMark46)

as you so aptly put it, shorties have short tubes, long tubes have...umm...long tubes. (sorry...couldnt help it). i dont have numbers off hand, but long tubes tend to give better power and torque. 1 5/8 should do very well for you.

if you want to go with long tubes have them cancel the x-pipe you ordered and change it out with the BBk x-pipe designed for long tubes...it shouldnt be a problem and will cost less for shipping
