Its final!
Welp ive decided, im goin 351W!!!!!!
i need some advice with the swap, so far ive got some info from http://www.fast351.com/tech/351w.htm which was some good info and this site http://www.mustangcentral.net/tech/351.html pretty much reconfirmed what the other one said. I need to know a couple more things though
A) would stock internals work with a twisted wedge style head (TFS trackheat)
B) If i run a Power steering rack without the pump, will the rack give way or could it just be treated like a manual rack
C) how do these motors like nitrous?
D) the block im using is a non roller block, will this be ok with EFI? and how much do cams run for that setup
E)Will my rear end (auburn pro diff stock 28 splines 3.55 gear) hold up to this setup (with 150-200 shot) on ET streets?
I appreciate all your help on this, i figurered if im gonna dump all this money into a stroker kit, might as well go all the way with the big boy motor! If you have any other suggestions, please lemme know
Thanks
Donnie

I can answer (E), I think you'll need 31 splines... a juiced 351+ ci puts some torque down!

as far as (b) goes: don't do that I heard of instances where the power rack has like "hydro locked" because the people just blocked the lines off and the fluid in the rack had nowhere to go. This could happen if you have to make quick manuevers, like to avoid something. even if its a track car I still wouldn't do it.

A) the deciding factor on what will work with the heads are the pistons. you will just have to check P/V clearance (which you would have to check anyway) but without TW spec pistons you will be limited on cam selection (although if you are buying pistons just get TW spec pistons).
B)Yeah you can run a power rack if need be. otherwise you can just get a manual rack from an earlier mustang (around $120) and just put your power in as a core (they usually just check to see if it is a core). The thing about using a power as a manual is it takes more to steer it, be prepared for crappy steering response.
My question is why not just keep the power steering? It isn't that much of a loss of power and if you are gonna street drive it then it will be worth it.
C)These motors like nitrous just as much as any internal combustion engine that is properly set up for nitrous. Just as with a 302 heads, cam and all other aspects of the combination must be designed together to be efficient with nitrous. The motor is a little more stout due to the 1/2" headbolts.
D)A non roller cam will work as long as the firing order is the same (just have to get an EFI 351W distributor). Are you asking how much it is to retrofit the block for a roller cam?
E)Your rear end should hold up fine on the street and with moderate track use. The rear end in my 460 car has traklok and stock axles and has had a nitroused 302 and 357 running lots of sub 1.6 times and now with the 460 and though I know it is on borrowed time it is still going. (it will now explode the next time)

you can get a rack for under $200 @ mustang parts specialties, good quality. it's what I use...
get new tw spec pistons, punch it out .30 over to unshroud the valves...
that kind of juice you'll probably be ok with stock crank, and rods with ARP hardware, but if you have the ability, go with a stroker kit...
I've got a forged steel crank, h-beams, and pop tops.. in mine...

Thanks for all the input steve/derek,etc, its highly appreciated
i might go .30 seeing as i already have to dissassemble it and get it hot tanked etc. So a new set of .030 over pistons, ring, bearings, etc should be fine (with stock crank/rods) Im not trying to take the cheap route, but i am on a slight budget, thats one of the main reasons i decided to go with the 351, instead of the stroked 302. I have the Trackheats already as well as some fms 30#ers, the edelbrock performer upper(ill buy a new lower) and the TB/Mass etc..... I have always loved the larger of the windsor brothers and i figured, hell, if im gonna drop a couple K into a motor, might as well be the one ive wanted!
Im gonna need some hands on experience from some of the "pros" (aka, i need some help LOL) with the motor instalation and everything that goes along with it.
keep the input comming, This is a new world for me!
