Default Wrecked Mustang= Factory Flaw?

Had a bad situation the other day, I put the car into the corner of the wall at my house.

When I turned into the driveway, all of sudden the throttle went Wide open and the car took off and hit the house, this happened so fast I went for the brakes and they didn't help at all, fronts were locked up and sliding in the gravel. both back wheels were fuckin smoking when I came off the concrete. I went for the key but I must have been going about 25 or 30..and had no time and clipped the corner of the garage ansd peeled the fender off and trashed the hood and front clip on the drivers side, Then it finally stopped when the corner of the house came in contact with the wheel.

Now when I got out of the car, I check the throttle linkage and its seemed fine and not bound up.

I went into the car and the factory floor mat was smashed up under the pedal to were it made the car go wide open, and not allow the pedal to come back up from the floor.

Has anyone of you guys had the floormat for the 2001 GT gives you any problems with coming loose? or getting in the way of normal pedal operation?

I told Ford and they basically told me "oh well shit happens".

Is my only option a lawyer?

Insurance is fixing the car but....

This happened to me on a few occassions with ye ol Lemon Drop. Scares the shit out of you to give it a little gas, only to find out the car continues giving it more gas after you lift your foot off the gas pedal.

Ford "fixed" the problem by putting those little plastic hooks on most of their cars. Sometimes if you don't have that thing securely pressed into the floormat, it will have a tendency to work its way forward. Unfortunately you will be at fault and in no way is this Ford's problem (unless there was some floormat recall ). Sorry to hear about your accident...at least no one was hurt.

Now I know why I've had my car for almost 2 years and still haven't bought floor mats for it.

Damn that blows. Certainly not Ford's fault though. Just about every Mustang I've ridden in has had crumpled up floor mats in it, with the except of Jomar's and one other. Next time remember to hook it to the little clip.

OK, I haven't been in a newer Mustang so forgive me for asking but if the floor mat schrunches up under the gas pedal, how can that make it go WOT? Seems that would have the opposite effect and not let you push the gas pedal down.

At any rate, sorry about the crunch.

It was a very wierd situation, I am not even sure how the floor mat cuased the pedal to stick, but when I lookked down the floor mat had the pedal to the floor, when I pulled it out the pedal came back to a correct position.

I know this sounds very stupid, but my firend has a Honda and his car was recalled for this very reason and they added a stud to the floorboard and made a reinforced hole in the floor mat and that keeps his mats out of his way.

On the 01 GT its has no hooks or other things to keep this mat down and in place..

I was surprised the air bag didn't go off, when I hit the house it sounded like a bomb went off..I destroyed the little mirror in the visor with my head and hit my face on the steering wheel, and I had my seatbelt on.
