I heard a wierd noise the other night while slowing down and wondered what it was, didnt think to much of it but, I was slightly worried.
only made the sound at like 5 mph and in neutral, clutch in or out .
took of the driveshaft today, the yoke and u joints are ok, little play in the joints but not much and I heard the noise once I turned the wheel.
well, only one area left, the rear. so thats a downer.It still works and still drive fine, just clunks a lil when im stopping.There was also a decent amount of metal flakes on the rearend magnet to, heh SUCK!.
so 3.73 or 3.90's here I come!

 

Well if you dont have a gear in there now youll pick up something in the 1/4 but if you do dont expect anything.I went from a 3.55 to a 410 and never picked up anything except a blown piston from hitting the rev. limtr. All you do is shift quicker unless your the absolute best of shifters.Max speed in 4th with a 410 and 6000 rpms 112mph,390 and 6000rpms 117mph,373 and 6000rpms around 123mph.But if you drive freeway goe with the 373s I just had them put in by Venom99 and they pull around 2500rpms at 80mph in 5th.

 

Ouch that had to hurt. Had you been abusing the car that day? Alot of spinning or clutch dumping? I'm planning on 3.73's when I get the money, then i gotta find someone to put them in or help me put them in yay. Good luck

no I hadn;t abused it that day that I remember, but I frequently do abuse it if u will. I go to the track.
So basically u could say im abusing my car, its a daily driver so yea, abuse is common here.
And u wont be able to put ure own rearend in , well u can u will wreck it 2 minutes into driving though.
BackLash must be set right on rearends and a professional who knows what they are doing is a must, take it somewhere and for like or 400 I guess they can do it.
I am gonna probly get a 3.73 or 3.90's.
God gas mielage sucks now, its gonna suck worse with a new set of gears, ahhh!

If your talking about your 68 couger than you only have 4 gears.We in the 21st century have 5 gears .And with my 373s I can hit 165 no problem

 

btw its a 3 speed and its a cougAr

ahhh and u have what kinda car?I wont be getting anywhere near 165 and I only got 3.27's....
