Need help please.
Hurst, No offense was meant. I promise.
Onward....Try to see if you can remove the fan clutch assembly first. Then, if that doesn't work, try to put a stubby screwdriver into the holes and jambing the pully a bit on the pump housing with the screwdriver poking through.
Piss poor design? From Chevrolet? Say it aint so!
LOL

I have a master kit, with all different size wrench ends, with "hooks" for the air hammer head to grab onto.... If you need something to borrow. Let me know.

Wake up early this morning thinking I'll run out to Sears and get a strap wrench and its a friggen torrential down pour with thunder and lightning out. The 6.0 is safe under the roof on my back porch. But no way in hell I'm doing the water pump in my truck in freezing rain plus I dont mess around when its lightning out. I had a bad experience when I was younger and saw first hand what a man looks like after getting hit with lightning. I threw up and have had nothing but respect for it ever since.
I'll keep you guys posted. The rain is supposed to let up later today. I'll take a crack at it then. I want to experiment on the 6.0 first before I do the 5.3 in my truck. Sometimes what seems like such a simple job turns into a cluster fuck like this when you dont have the right tools. Besides the 5.3 in my truck which other than knock sensors and regular maintenance has been trouble free for almost 4 years now. I'm approaching 120k on my truck. Going back on memory,.. previous GM water pumps on older older motors were usually good for about 50k miles. So I guess getting 120k out of this one is doing good. But then I had over 200k on the factory water pump in my 2v 4.6. This is my first time really working on the GM LSx engines. Really have no experience before this. I have to admit though,.. the learning curve here is much simpler than when I first cracked open the 2v 4.6 in my 96 Mustang.

Good news and bad news,.. well not really so bad,.. but sucky just the same.
Replaced the water pump in my truck,.. no problems. Finshed it start to finish in about 1 1/2 hours. One of the easiest I've ever done. For shits and giggles I put the wrench on the bolt, whacked it with a hammer and viola. It broke loose. No fighting, easy peasy.
I bought a chain wrench for the 6.0. Locked the water pump pulley. Put the wrench on the nut,.. beat the piss out of it with the hammer and nothing. Would not break loose. I pulled the water pump off and took it and the clutch fan assembly still attached to it over to my inlaws place. I hit it with an air chisel and did nothing but put gouge after gouge all over the nut. I put the pump in a vice and put a 36" crescent wrench to the nut,.. I beat on it with a 10 lb sledge hammer and did nothing but strip the nut.
So I've called quits. After buying the water pump for my truck I see that they come with a new pulley and new copper gaskets. I will just buy a new water pump for the 6.0 and call it a day. I was so worried that I wouldnt be able to get the nut off the 5.3 in my truck,.. turned out that 6.0 pump was DOA before I ever tried to break it loose. Oh well,.. win some lose some.
Thanks for the help guys.
