Repacking 8.8 Traction-Loc help
I have a 31spline Traction Loc out of an Explorer and I want to replace the clutch packs. I'm looking at either the standard kit or the upgraded kit with the carbon clutchs and new spring clip.

$107.95

The car is making over 600ft/tq on the bottle and so I'm thinking I want to go with the carbon clutch packs. Anyone have experience with either of these kits? I've read you can add an additional clutch pack and in an alternating order to get the Traction-Loc nice and tight. Do these Ford racing kits have enough clutch packs to do that? Is the S clip just a new S Clip or is it a heavier rate spring than what I already have? Are there better clutch packs I could buy or is this good enough?

I'd really suggest an aftermarket unit. The stock casting isn't going to last even at 31 spline, 600ft lbs of tq is far more then the stock casting will handle.
Ford Racing M-4700-B = Explorer,Mountaineer spec.
Ford Racing M-4700-C = 03-04 Cobra spec
The S-clip is a production piece. It isn't stronger.
There aren't enough clutch's to pack them tighter.

Rebuilding them is a muther also. I've done one. Getting it apart was easy compared to the busted knuckles trying to get it all put back in the chunk.
You would be better off with something like a Detroit Trutrac or if you dont mind a little clunking,.. the Locker.

When purchasing a kit from Ford racing it came with extra clutch's?
Those kits he posted are considered stock spec rebuild kits, they shouldn't come with extra clutch's.

Not sure if he keeps extras or what. But I have beat the crap out of them and never had one slip and that was on a car that was a DD and weekend warrior. The last one stayed with me for about 8 yrs and a few different chassis'
