Fox wiring harness
If I'm reading this correctly, your dash and harness match, and you are going carbed? You should be fine then. The only wiring you need on a carbed motor is keyed power to the starter, keyed coil hot, tach, and alternator wiring. All of which can be pulled out of your harness, scrap the rest, and hook it up.
being that your car is a 89 the 90 stuff wont work with any of the 90-93 wiring without cutting. Being that your going carb you can do a few thing find all the wiring from a 87-89 car as they are the same and if can be v8 or 4cly. Then get it installed and check that your lights wipers horn windows and all that stuff is working. Next whatever harness you got look up a diagram for and with this you can find you wires for the stock gauges and the starter input wire. I did a carb swap on my 94 and i have no engine harness at all and all my stock gauges work my a/c is ice cold it all works as it should.

I agree also on differences in harnesses with connectors, instrument panel etc. Just sell the 90 harness and get the right year harness, it will be a lot less painless than all the problems you will be posting on here later about trying to get things to work when you have to cut that harness to work!! good luck

I'm pretty certain the plugs in the dash side of the harness changed on the later fox cars. Things like the instrument panel, HVAC, signal stalks, etc.

Tommy, I have an 89 tilt column in my car with a 90 dash and body harness. I took the electronics from the 90 column (signals etc) and put them on the 89 column. I agree that if you were going FI then I would match everything up but since you are going carbed you wont be using half of the harness anyway.

that dash isn't a plug and play by any means lol. Im pretty sure it will plug in to the main body harness and will all pin the same from the dash back except for the factory f/p. You're not using the PCM. just check that it does plug in to your headlight harness
You can use any of the harnesses...as long as you have the whole harness
I have a 93 4 cyl complete harness from front to back
89 tilt column and a 92 dash ..with a little modifying on the platic column cover around the column it can be done if you want to...
as far as the harnesses some of the connectors like to the wiper motor and the wiper switch and getting the rite cluster is were most of your problems will be, but if you get all the same stuff from the same car you will be fine
and the gauges there are a couple of different ways to make them all work .
simpilist way would be to run wires from you cluster to your senders like water and oil, tach very simple to figure out...
you can tap into the ignition switch to make all of the other stuff work
like fuel pump ,msd,ect
or if its not a street car it can be done even easier make your own harness...
if you look you can find an aftermarket harness not painless from 80 to 300 bux
but although not that hard, but time consuming splicing everything together and then you still need some of the stockharness for the end plugs to the connections. pita if you ask me
