Heads/Intake ?
Stock configuration 302 but with forged internals, ~9.3:1 compression. AFR 185 heads and a ported Vic 5.0 intake. Going to run a mild cam in it. 5spd. Daily driver. Zero balanced and plan to spin a little higher than stock. Do you think the heads and/or intake are too large and are going to be a bad fit?
Nitrous will be on, but won't be used often and the focus will be for comfortable, reliable daily driving - and whatever kind of fuel efficiency can be gotten given the power levels.

With those heads and intake port velocity will be poor for low end hp and torq. Will be great for a high RPM motor and should make good power up top. Pretty much the same combo I had except .030. Made 342hp and was good for mid 12's@110 with a 4.10 gear. I had a NX274HR cam but never sprayed the motor. Cam specs were 224/236 @.50 .555/.570. It bucked a little bit below 2000 RPM,.. definitely wasnt very happy below 2500. But from 4000 - 6500 RPM it pulled pretty good.
I think with a little less cam it could make a decent daily driver,.. but low and mid range wont be as good with smaller heads.

Hmm, would an 1" intake spacer and milling the heads to get the compression ~10:1 do the trick, or are cubes still going to be the problem?
Hurst, the low RPM bucking especially concerns me. This car will be a daily driver - whenever I'm not on the bike I'll be going to work on it, that means stop n go traffic. I'll be going on interstates with it, that means long periods of 2,000-2,500 RPM driving.

I think you could change to a more street friendly intake like a Street Heat or System Max it might work better than with that particular intake. And go with a milder cam,.. say something like a Comp XE270HR, XE268HR or even a E-303. Before I converted to carb I had the Edelbrock Victor 5.0 intake with the AFR 185 heads and it was an absolute turd below 4000 RPM and experienced most of the bucked with this intake. After converting to carb using a Vic jr intake and 600cfm Holley,.. the bucking decreased but it was still there.
In my case I just wanted a track car. I didnt car about street manners. The way it was explained to me was that with a motor that small the 185cc head and a large intake like a Victor or similar,.. they dont produce the port velocity to make the HP except at high RPM.. and then it comes on with a surge of power. Kinda like if you've ever driven a 96 - 98 4V Cobra,.. how after the IMRC's open up after 3500 RPM and the surge you get from 5000 - 7000 RPM. The combo your running if you ever sprayed it or put a turbo to it.. then it would probably be a really sick combo especially at higher RPM's.

Thanks Hurst and Shawn. I'll trade down for a more streetable intake and mill the heads or swap down for a more streetable set.

I don't think the heads or intake are too big. Compression could be a little higher. I do think that the cam will be critical to tie it together.

This thread will turn in to a pissing match real easily, lol. BIG heads, intake, cam all make big peak HP #s, no one really denies this. If you already have the 185's, use them. Ditch the ported Vic JR for a dual plane, go with a smaller cam and don't over carb it either. You can trade TONS of driveability for 5-10 rwhp...

I'm down with that, just gotta find someone who wants this intake, preferably who has a trade of equal value. And yeah, I'm not about sacrificing drivability - being fast is nice, but this car needs to run like a normal car, not a racecar.
