Default one problem DIRECTLY after another

so i went to pull my car out of the drive way to let my brother in law leave and when i went to start my car the starter stayed engaged. so i turned it off but it kept tryin to start so i turned back on and left it running so i could let him out and to pull into thee garage.
i turned it off and tried to turn it back on and it wouldnt even turn over.
i swapped the starter solenoid on the fire wall and checked connections. also checked my starter switch under the steering column and nothin happens.

but when i try to turn the car on then turn the key back i hear a ping from under the hood, BUT ONLY WHEN I TURN THE KEY BACK.

I have a 92 gt with an older starter, so i have the big simple one.
i really need some help, my car has been nothing but trouble with problem right after another. i will take anyones smart ass $0.02 right

I don't see it being the starter, if it's the big old style. Most of the time low battery voltage burns the soleniod contacts and makes it stick. You replaced the soleniod and wired it right?

Make sure your starter solenoid is a real live FORD made part. Crap from Autozone etc. tend to weld their contacts together of a regular basis. True story.

On the flip side, the real live FORD made ignition switch on the column, not the one you stick your key into, is a total POS in it's original form. If it has never been replaced...even with an Autozone one, now is a good time to do it. They are cheap. The original ones are dangerous. More than a few 80's and 90's Fords have burned up just sitting in the driveway.
