I think the blow through carb is for a budget minded racer. There is no way it can even come close to an EFI setup. Especially when it comes to individual cylinder corrections, wideband air fuel adjustments, timing maps, etc etc etc

My question is why on a buildup that has plenty of $$$ tied into it would someone do a carb setup? Especially when its touted as 1 a street car(meaning he wants drivability).. 2 as a pump gas low octane application(meaning timing and fueling maps are more critical).

Maybe its the owner doesnt want to deal with a laptop? Or learn to deal with a laptop to get the motor trimmed out? Cant be he's afraid of computers or he wouldnt be posting his build on the net.

I've had both.. went through plenty of motors on the blow through. My current EFI setup.. over 180 passes.. still rocking. Would never in my life again make a pass without a datalogger.. never go back to a carb... because when that motor comes apart getting figured out.. there will be no way of telling what happened when it let go.

I wont even get into the 50/50 water injection choice

someone I know spent over a grand on his carb alone and it still had the streetability of a 1 ton pickup with a rotary, a Holley Dominator and the E-brake on. I'll take EFI.

Not to take away from this post and what Mark is trying to do, but do we really want to get into the Carb vs. FI drama again??

I know I spent well over $1800 on my intake, injectors, fuel rails, and mass air setup. Then let the car sit for almost 2 years, before Rob (shameless plug) got it tuned to perfection. I can't tell you how many times I thought of throwing the FI stuff out the door for something that would eliminate all the computer crap, sensors, and other things keeping me from the smell of burnt rubber...
Both have their ups and downs....

(PS. I'm glad I didn't throw it out the door!! )

Back on track for Mark!!

There hasn't been a lot more done. I got the interior cleaned up, trying to figure out what do to for the front suspension. I want to do Mustang II front, but no one lined up yet.

The engine should be getting built the week after Thanksgiving now, I have all the parts.

Also a preview of some of the engine parts. Read more on the engine build here.

Mark what made you go back to drag racing? From what I remember you were pretty involved with auto xing and drifting.

I guess the job I have now, being the editor for Stangtv.com and Dragzine.com. I haven't autocrossed in about 6 years. I have drifted my Z 4-5 times at events, but I haven't been to one in about 2 years. The last bit of performance driving I did was my 525HP 400ci SBC'd 240sx (that I sold to get the Mustang).

I am gearing up to buy a 2011 Mustang GT in place of the Z (nearing 85k miles) more than likely. I will autocross, drag race, AND drift it.

Unrelated, but since you already did an article about a supercharger on one. Does this mean you will contact Hellion for a little boost??
