Also this may seem like a no brainer but seems to happen to alot of ppl out there often.

Make sure the plug wires are on the cap in the right location and ran to the correct cylinder.

Just double checked my timing and its correct. As far as firing order its 13726548 and 1 being at around 11:45 on the dizzy and spinning ccw that's how I have my wires plugged. Unless this engine isn't really a h.o. I have them wrong which I'm pretty sure it is. 87s did have the h.o right?lol.....I'm kind of thinking its fuel starvation that's causing this. I will check my fuel pressure over the weekend to rule out the pump or the little hose from the pump to the sending unit being pinched. One other question, are the tbirds 5.0 fuel pumps same as the mustangs? Reason I asked is because that's what I have on

ecu ?? do the noid light test. the computers go bad on these all the time.I fought with this problem a few times if you know anyone that would let you borrow one for testing. or go buy a noid light test kit at harbor freight, they are cheap.its a kit with a bunch of test lights in it, they plug in to your harness where the injector plugs in. you turn the motor over and they will flash every time the ecu pulses the injector.if it does not blink your ecu is bad. if it stays on constant your ecu is bad. test every one. you can borrow mine but I live in spring hill.I think I paid less than 20 bucks for the kit

Ok so just to double check i got this right...

The car ran fine ... It sats for 3 months ..You the replaced the fuel tank & pumps...It started up but it was back firing.. You then adjusted the valve lash..When your tried to restart it.. it would not start..

You then replaces the Fpr,fuel rail & injectors..You also check the firing order and it was fine.. Now it only starts with starter fluid..

So Now does the car idle fine and if you try to give it tad of gas it starts to backfire? Or as soon as you start it up its backfiring at idle??

I would say you have sticking valves..Could even be a damaged springs but i dont think it likely

And Being the car sat for 3 months it is not unexpected at all to have sticking valves..

There are a few things you can try to free up a sticking valve assuming its not slightly bent or warped and being hung up...

Try doing an oil change and adding marverl mystery oil.

I also heard that Amsoil power foam works pretty well..

But to be honest with you i would...Try pouring kerosene on the valve assembly, moving the valve up/down with the cylinder rotation- it should dissolve any sludge/grit/grime that may have accumulated and work it free. Then i would change the oil & filter and run marvel mystery oil or the amsoil power foam. The fire her up...

If that provides improvement, then you are likely in good shape.

soooooooo i got around to pull the tank out and check my pump and.......................this is what i found

pinched hose

and a busted hose

i got the tank in yesterday and cranked it up a couple mins ago. She cranks up, no rag w/gas or starting fluid needed. And also no backfiring. Im assuming the backfiring and dying out was caused by the lack of fuel.

did you replace it with the right kind of hose because thats a special hose made to be submersed in gas if you put regular fuel line on it it will do the same thing. that looks like what someone else did
