Default 67 Mustang power steering problems

Here at work I have a 67 Mustang, originally a 6 cyl car which was brought here for a V8 swap. Between him and the boss they decided to use a 5.0 Along with accessories(minus ac) from a 90's Mustang. The problem I'm having is, after having made the custom hoses to mate the pump to the rack and bleeding out the system of all the air in the lines yesterday everything worked great. Today I start the car to top it off with trans fluid and the steering begins to whip violently left and right without even touching the wheel. Anyone know what might cause this and a possible solution?

Thanks,
Miles.

sounds like the pressure and return are hooked up wrong , but if it worked good at all , it might be something else. That what happens if you cross the lines , but i dont think you can cross them on that can you?

Nope, the lines are different sizes and only run one way. I even tripple checked them with a 64 comet that I'm working on also and everything looks right. Like I said, yesterday everything worked great, today I started it up and it damn near broke my wrist when It started shaking. It turns on It's own about 45 degrees each way.

I personally think it's just too much pressure for the 67's rack.

Sounds like they are hooked up backwards, but extremely high pressure could also cause the problem.....

I think the new pump produces too much pressure for the old power steering cylinder. Is there some way to regulate the pressure out of the pump?

PERSONALLY....Your best bet is to replace the pump with an original pump and modify a bracket to fit. But thats just me.

If it was me I wouldn't be working on this damn headache of a corner cutter at all lol. If it was up to me I would have been putting the 440 in the GTX or the 408 in the 68 camaro lol. But unfortunately I have to do what the customer wants, including putting a ancient edelbrock carb on it instead of the brand new holley I have on the shelf.

Is there some kind of power steering pressure regulator?

+1 on running the original pump.

Not that I know of.

EDIT**** I stand corrected. A quick Google search brought this up: http://www.marchperf.com/pg52.html About 1/2 way down the page. Part number P306
