they angle mill the heads and then they have to mill the flat surface of the intake to mate that to the head. The part where the intake gasket goes. Then the bottom of the intake is also milled. Just to match the heads. You have to also drill the holes that the bolts go thru at a different angle. I've seen the heads angled so much that the bottom bolt washer is almost touching the deck. they remove over 1/4" yes a 1/4" . Next time your at one of these big meets check out the heads on some of the record holders. They even heat the headers at the flange to angle them back up. I've seen sometimes over 20 heads sent to be flowed just to see which one has better core shift and casting flaws to flow better. I wasnt into them as I was in the big inch chevy motors 600 plus inches back then, so didnt pay to much attention to them. I remember Fletchers in Pinellas park years ago could angle mill this way.

yep far from stock its always sad when they make a class to be competitive for the average guy, but there is always that guy who has endless pockets and wants to be number 1 in a new class before everybody else jumps in. I've seen this way back in the 70's and my older friends say it was no different in the 60's.
ex: friend races a stock class. has special machine that goes inside a q jet to push out on walls to get extra cfm and flow. its hydralicly operated to do only this function. looks like a minature honing bush but you can expand it with hydralics.
yep these guys arn't looking for tenths but hundreths of a sec.
