Default What causes this?

In my wife's 94 vert with a v-6 and automatic, the "OD off" light keeps flashing on and off for a while after driving it, then eventually stays on. Tonight, it came on for a while. She shut the car off, restarted it, and it was off. Got on the freeway, and the OD worked just fine. As she pulled into the driveway, the light started flashing again and stayed on...again.

We just replaced this transmission. The last one did the same thing for a while before it went out. I don't want this transmission to go out.

Ideas?

The O/D light doubles as the "Check Transmission Light". However, unlike the check engine light, it should be taken seriously. It very seldom will flash for something inconsequential. Pull codes, and find out whats up.

Rodger! I'll take it to either Autozone or Pep Boys today!

Dont really know if it matters, maybe Brain will chime back in, but did you clear the codes since you installed the new transmission? Might not make a difference, I wouldnt know, just a thought to throw out there

I did NOT, because I don't know how. LOL

Took it to Autozone and Pep Boys. They both told me it's a no-go because it's a 94. They said it has OBD-I, and they are only equipped for 96 and newer OBD-II. GRRRRRR!!!!!!

Anyone near Brandon able to help me pull the codes this weekend? I'll buy you a 6-pack.

The 94 v6 is actually OBD-II. Normally, they are correct about the 1996 OBD-I/II split, but the 94-95 v6 is an exception. The port is under the dash, on the driver side of the center console, and will pull codes with a standard OBD-II reader.

If the code is old, it may remain stored, but the light shouldn't stay on for it, if the failure has been fixed.

LOL I went to Autozone again. They told me "It won't plug in because it's OBD - I, and all we can do is OBD -II." I said, I guarantee it's got OBD-II. I'll show you where the plug in is. So I did. The lady was surprised, but plugged it in. I don't think she knew how to use the darn thing because she said it didn't pull ANY codes. Can this be right?
