paging hurst and efi brian lost keys on pass car
I have searched and I have likely lost the last key for my car. 1997 mustang gt. I would like a push button start and a new key fob to lock and unlock. Any advise on how or who to do this would be appreciated.

To accomplish the push button start, you will probably need to disable the PATS. If not, you will need a minimum of two keys to reprogram it, and make it work again.
Thoughts anyone?

The ignition switch in my 96 GT was kinda fubar. The thumb part that your supposed to turn broke off.. so I would just use the key. After about a year of the the key broke off in the switch. I didnt know about the PATS,.. so I took my spare key to ACE hardware and wanted them to copy it using a regular Ford key. Which they did. I finally got the broken key out. But when I used the newly made key,.. the switch would turn on and the idiot lights would all light up. Then turn it to start,.. the engine would start for like 1 or 2 seconds and then shut off with the Theft light blinking. I tried this a second time and it set off the alarm for the car. Head lights flashing, horn honking the whole 9 yards. When I bought the car I never got the key fobs for the keyless entry and to shut off the alarm. So I disconnected the battery. As soon as I reconnected the battery the alarm went off again. I waited 2 hours,.. and again,.. as soon as the battery was reconnected the alarm was going off.
So I did some research online and reading the owners manual which has a fuse block diagram. Pulling fuses does nothing for the alarm. It still goes off. But,.. inside the driver side kick panel is a 12 - 16 gauge red wire that has an inline fuse in it. Yank that fuse and the alarm is disabled. Does not effect the PATS,.. the PATS still functions. I also learned that if you try to start the car 3 times in a row activating the PATS will result in the PATS permanently activated and will need a dealer or tuner to reset it for you.
Now since you have no keys at all,.. this is wont help you. But I took apart the big end of the key that broke and pulled out the chip. I Used clear epoxy to mount it to the key. Stuck it in and it worked just like the regular key.
Best bet is to have Brian (EFI-Unlimited) Disable your PATS. Then you have 2 choices. Any dealer can cut you new keys from your VIN number. Thats all they need. I've seen it done. Real comforting knowing anyone can get a key to your car from your VIN. Then the dealer will charge you $150 per key,.. and like Brian said,.. they only do 2. Cant buy just 1. And they will want to reprogram it for the PATS. But if you get Brian to tune out the PATS,.. you should be able to just get regular Ford keys cut for your car. Any lock smith for $80 - $100 can cut a key for your ignition. My father was in the business.
If you locked yourself out of the car,.. I was in the repo business years ago and I still have my lock out kit. I can unlock your car in 30 seconds or less damage free. I would not charge you anything to unlock your car for you.

Certain people on here I would charge. They know who they are.
Most like you,.. if it wasnt too far out of the way I would do for free. But if I had to drive more than 45 mins I would ask for some gas money at least.
