5.4 Question
What is the Difference from the 5.4 engines that comes in the f250's vs the ones that come out of lightnings ( im assuming lightnings have lower compression and forged internals )? just wondering what the differences are?
Might be a stupid question....just curious?

I'm not too familiar with the L motors. IIRC its the pistons and rods as far as the long block is concerned. The intake and blower obviously are different.

Just wondering, because i came across a Good 5.4 that came out of a f250 superduty. And i remember a guy on her that had a either Red or orange 00' style turbo mustang with a 5.4. Just curious if they are the same block

I thought all the 5.4's have forged steel cranks with center counterweights. Some of the posts below have more information about the crank. As far as I know, the only real difference to speak of between the regular garden variety 5.4 and the Lightning 5.4 is the pistons. Possibly a camshaft, but that is unlikely.

quoted from auto speed magazine "But what gives the Lightning its real strength is the addition of a supercharger to the 5.4 litre Triton V8 engine. Already is an extremely potent engine generating 198kW, SVT engineers wanted to take Triton V8 to the next performance level. Since the engine block featured a 'deep skirt' design giving it greater rigidity, it was decided to boost performance with a supercharger. SVT engineers added a forged steel crankshaft, sinter-forged alloy connecting rods, and forged pistons, then lowering the compression ratio to 8.4:1 for the addition of the supercharger. Sequential injection, coil on plug ignition, alloy heads and a two valves per cylinder design with SOHC per bank are already standard." standard post 99 5.4s have hyperautectic pistons cracked cast rods and cast steel crank to the best of my knowledge and also states in this muscle mustangs article Ford Modular V-8 Engine - Crankshafts - Mustang & Fords Magazine
Is it a gas or diesel motor? I think the gas F250 is a V10 but I could be wrong.

The 99+ f250s came with 4 different motors. The 5.4 v8 being the lowest line of them, then the v10 after that and then of course the diesel option the 6.0 and 7.3.
The motor im talking about was actually pulled in favor of a diesel swap and im just curious if its worth my time to take it as the owner of it says i can have it. It's a complete long block w/ all the wiring.
