Default High idle, high voltage on TPS

Idle should be 700ish rpms, it is currently sitting at 1800-2000rshared_pm. Ive changed the throttle position sensor, cleaned the throttle body, but my problem is the TPS's voltage is too high. It should be under 1 volt at idle, and its at 1.17 right now, after I adjusted the position of the tps, it was 1.24 prior. Also, the idle screw on the throttle body is pulled all the way out, and the throttle is completely shut and its still at 1.17 volts.

I have no idea how to get it lower, I've changed the position of the tps multiple times, but cannot get it under 1 with it being on the throttle body.

Anyone else have some ideas? its an 03 taurus, and a new TPS.

you have to drill out the two holes on tps sensor so you have more room to adjust it.i had the same problem with my car.after you enlarge the holes you should be able to adjust it enough to get the voltage down.

its plastic with metal guides, it'd break immediately. I'd though about trying to bend the piece that the sensor attaches to.

However, I'm looking more towards the reason the car is running this way, also the voltage on the high end is only 4.5, my manual says it should be closer to 5 volts. So if I adjust it to be lower then it'll be closer it'll go down to 4.3 on the high end..

Try another tps, new means not tested...we have this problem all the time at work.

R u sure you that you checked it corretly?key car off.throttle plate closed it should be from .50 to 1.0 at idle and shouldnot go above 5. at full throttle.you must have one of those newer style tps sensors, because i have never seen one with a metal guide in it.

I checked it right, ignition on, but engine off. Throttle shut, its at 1.17 now, and 4.55 at wide open. I'll pick up another one and try it.

There are a lot of deep rooted myths regarding TPS voltage. As long as it is below 1.25 volts, it should idle. If not, I suspect something else is at work.

well the only other issues I can think of are with the fuel regulator and fuel pump. I'm going to check though in the morning and after that I'm completely out of ideas.

FWIW a copy & paste from FordFuelInjection.com

•Closed Throttle can be anywhere between 0.6-1.0 volts
•Part Throttle is triggered @ 0.04 volts above Closed Throttle
•Full Throttle is triggered @ 2.71 volts above Closed Throttle

vacuum leak?

IAC, idle air control, try cleaning that. That small varience in your tps shouldnt make that much of a difference but a bad IAC will.
