I beg to diiffer, a manual tranny with the right clutch in the right hands can be faster on alot of combos, but not all.

I said with all things being equal...that means EVERYTHING is the same or equal except for the trannys. If that's the case, the auto will win.

Then could you tell me why a stick has to carry weight in NMRA Hot Street, and NMCA Mean Street if it's slower?

its lighter and less parasitic loss with a potential to be quicker....but theres always that driver error part.

5speed is definitely cheaper and fun for a street car...but theres nothing like a stalled auto behind a big block.

I believe for purposes of consistency (bracket racing, ultra high horsepower set ups ) it's true, you can't beat an automatic

In the real world, a well driven manual can be quite effective. Make sure you notice the expression, "well driven".

When you compare the weight of an AOD to a T5, i think you can see why there is a 125 # weight addition to the Manual Transmissions in H/S classes. I dont think it is faster. More consistent, definetely. The human variable is just that, varying.

My guess would be an attempt by the governing body to make "all things equal" weight wise. I don't care how good you are at rowing the gears, one of these days, you're gonna miss third gear at a very inopportune time. Sure, the auto guy can miss a shift too if he's got a full manual shifter...but not near as likely as the guy stomping a clutch and trying to hit a gate with a bunch of g-forces pulling him in the wrong direction.

Why do you suppose they didn't want any "robot" cars mucking up things in that race in the other thread?
