On the subject of cracked off rods,... Everyone keeps saying '96+, but the 4.6L was introduced in late '92 with the production of the MK VIII. Did those engines have diff.. rods or something? Trying to learn is all!
Mark VIII's were made in 1993 and donned the DOHC 4V 4.6L 8cyl...the same as ended up in the 96-98 Mustang Cobra. In essence they tested the engine in the Mark VIII before they used it in the Cobra.
Although the 1993 Mark VIII was the first car to don the 4v 4.6l 8cyl, it was not the first 4.6L engine introduced by ford. The first 4.6L engine was introduced in the 1991 Lincoln Town Car which was a 2v 4.6L 8cyl engine.
