The old 5.0 was so popular because of the durable short block. Ford dropped the ball with the modulars (my opinion, not includng 03-04 Cobras) because of the weak rods/pistons.
I remember seeing my first Paxton ball-drive equiped 5.0 Fox and how well it ran.
I was hooked...!

they do use a "powder cracked rod which is then forged. prob quite a bit better than the powder cracked rods in the 96 and up.

On the subject of cracked off rods,... Everyone keeps saying '96+, but the 4.6L was introduced in late '92 with the production of the MK VIII. Did those engines have diff.. rods or something? Trying to learn is all!

no, they had the powder cracked rods then, it's a name, doesn't mean they are as bad as they sound. most people just complain of the 96 and up mustang for having those rods, thats why most people say 96 and up. In all honesty a forged rod will let go just a few seconds of abuse (ie: a bad tune/detonation) after the powder cracked rods.

I'm glad to see them offer a baseline car with the good motor. These were all over back in the late 60s early 70s, the el cheapo Chevy II with the 327s were bullets. The probelm was that the dealers optined the living hell out of the cars because they knew they'd sell them, that screwed the performance guy.

I'm assuming this will be a modular motor as well which means it will retain the same reliability the Ford modular engines are known for. That's a definite plus.
