Default Hydraulic Lifter question...

Got a question about lifters.

A little background.

Ford Escort SOHC head is what we are talking about here by the way

I Sold the head to a guy I had Cylinder Head Exchange of Lakeland do up for me about a year ago. The head sat for like a year it has bigger valves hardened seats etc.

I sold it last week and he put it on his car.

He then e-mails me and says the car was rattling and he pulled a plug and it was bent. He told me that 5 of the 8 lifters were in backwards.

Any of you ever have any experience with a craptastic shop installing lifters in backwards and somehow making parts fly inside the motor?

Something is fishy here to me because the lifters don't even look right in backwards. and even if they were in backwards I don't see where that would pose a problem unless they were revving the crap outta the engine or something...

Here's a pic of the type of lifter they have....

If you only sold him the head, why would it be your fault if some idiot installed the lifters upside down?

it was assembled, the lifters are inside the head so they didn't teardown the head or anything before they put it in the car

Do you know why he needed the head?

I work on cars, a long time ago i did a cyl head on an escort, because they got it so hot that a valve seat dropped and totally fucked up the head. I replaced the head with a rebuilt one and it started up fine and the car left. A few days later it came back because they said it was low on power. I drove around the block and the first chance i got i stomped it to the floor and all hell broke loose, part of the org valve seat was stuck in the intake (i didn't see) and it dropped back in the engine.

I know of two other people that did the same thing, i bet that's what happened. The lifter is round so it will spin and not wear out, there is no way that they were in wrong, no way.

That's exactly what I asked him a few minutes ago if he reused the intake manifold. because that head i sold him had hardened seats, notched and glued, now the lifter is a messup on the cylinder head places end with it being in backwards maybe, but that shouldn't have ruined a motor just wanted a little reassurance lol.

I had a belt slip on one years ago and it bent all the valves, broke 2 rocker arms and bent push rods.

Had the head rebuilt and traded that bitch.
