Well, they were bias ply and did do an excellent job as a drag tire too. I don't know if they were any good on a dirt track or not. The tread was nice and soft and didn't lastvery long. I usually got mine from Dan Flowers at IdleWild. The only problem I ever had with them was if I got a nail in them...which was quite often due to all the trash trucks driving down the road at work, they didn't take too well to patching.

I was told when I put on my McCreary's that they had to have tubes put in. I had the tubes put in, and I never had a problem with them. LOL I still have em too. LMAO Now THAT'S bad.

It was a lie perpetrated by those who sell tubes. Of course, after that first nail hole, a tube was a good idea because the tread was so flexible that patches had a hard time hanging on. I ran them for years with no tubes and 11 psi on the street. Not the same ones, of course, but reincarnations because I only got about 5,000 miles out of a set before the tread mysteriously disappeared.

I tried a tube in them one time and that was the first pair I ever owned. The guy in Speed Unlimited who sold them to me said that I 'HAD' to have tubes in them. I had a hella time getting them to balance,.. and they were just a general PITA. I bought my second pair used and mounted them with out the tubes by mistake,.. plugged a valve stem back in and then to my surprise they held air just fine. After that I've never run tubes in any tires,.. even slicks. Of course back then I was a cheaper bastard then I am now and the $15 for tubes was considered too much. Figure you could get a Whopper or Wendy's double back then for $.99. Krystal and White Castle used to do 6 for $1 back then too.. ah the days.

No, I haven't seen him for quite a while, Will. I got him a job at the lab a few years ago. He worked for a while and then switched to a competitor. After that, he kind of dropped from the radar screen. He'll turn up again some day.

Oh, yeah, I still race but not like I used to. Too much seems to get in the way of having a good time.
