Technical Questions... Rep given
BAP measures the ambient air pressure. MAF cars will meter the air coming in through the MAF and the computer will determine the amount of fuel needed based on the reading coming off the MAF. The BAP in this situation will allow the computer to recognize the air pressure because lower ambient air pressure means air that is less dense which means if it puts the same amount of fuel in then your car will run rich. Its needed because the computer is trying to get a consistent 14.1:1(cant remember what stoich is so dont quote me on this) A/F ratio.
Your car has a BAP because its a MAF car.
The cars with MAP's however are using speed density which measures the amount of manifold pressure along with other things to determine how much fuel to use based on a preset mapping of how much air "should be" entering the engine with any particular parameter. Speed density cars will not respond well to mods at all without a complete re-tune as they will play havoc on the stock readings.
Hurst did a great job explaining it. This is my comprehension of it but Im not an EFI expert like the other guys. efi-unlimited would probably be able to explain it the best.

The sensor on the back of your firewall is your BAP. And its probably not whats wrong with the car. After all my years of working on these cars I have only seen one actually be bad and that was becasue it was dropped and stepped on by accident.
Your car is an 89 GT with a 90 GT motor in it.
Model year 86 through 88 Mustangs used a speed density system.
Model year 89 through 2010 all use a MAF system.
You fall in the 89 through 2010 year range (89 body, with 90 motor)
I am going to say this as nice as possible. Its time to suck up your loss and take it in to a real shop (not this Tech1 place again). Your lost and have no clue whats going on. Time to start takin legal action against this Tech1 place and take the money and get it fixed else where.
Sorry if that offends you. Just calling how I see it.
And to add to the confusion, I believe they are exactly the same part. Whether you call it a MAP or a BAP just depends on whether the vacuum line is attached to the nipple or if it is left open to the atmosphere.
Uhhhhh...nipple left open to the atmosphere...uhuh, uhuh. Scuse me, I gotta go now.
