A car will run fine on a charged battery using juice from battery to power ignition system which will drain it.

you forgot to mention "for about 15 minutes"

the car nearly drains the battery to between 2-9 volts depending on the starter demand.

So the fuse was open? If so this would not cause a drain and therefore removing it will not make a difference. Just a thought, look in your glove box to see if it has a light. If so make sure it is turning off when you close it.

OK
Froggie, dont get hung up on how new it may be, things go bad no matter how new. Do you still have the factory voltage regluator for the alternator?

^ i was about to say something about that. my 86 has an alt. from a 71 mustang 2 and is EXTURNALY regulated. there for the alt can be good but if a wire pops off of the regulator or if it goes bad the charge wont get the the batterie.

and when i first got my red top optima it took a crap only after having it for 3 weeks. but i got it replaced free of charge.
