Default Cage Legalities? For teching out @ Track...

Click on this link, and look at the cage in the car under the link called "Dad's 89 Coupe" or whatever:

BrockelRacing

From what I see, the door bars are too high, don't go far enough forward into the foot well, and then he's changed them to swing-outs to boot. Then look at the rear main hoop where the kick bars come down and triangulate at the bottom of the main hoop... Is any of this legal to tech out????

Thanks for any input

First of all it's only a roll bar(not a cage)..... The braces on the main hoop to the cross bar make absolutely no sense at all but there are no kicker bars required by the rules on a roll bar, so that is jus extra material going for a ride..... The side bar height can vary depending on the size of the driver, the rule says the side bar must cross between the drivers shoulder and elbow(only a driverside side bar is required)..... There is no real designation where the front of the side bar must be although I would have made go further forward the they did(atleast in front of the door opening)..... Also the cross bar on the cage must not be more then 4" below the sidebars which it is.....

A roll bar in a car with a stock floor pan and firewall can go 10.0 in the 1/4 or a maximum of 135 mph, which ever comes first according to the rules.....

In my opinion this roll bar would pass at any track.... You need to always remember that enforcement of rules like these are at the descretion and interpitation of the track..... For example: According to the NHRA rules a car(except verts) can go 11.50 with no roll bar, but Bradenton commonly requests people to get a roll bar in there car starting at 11.90(specially regulars) and that is there right.....

Rules get much more specific when you go to a full cage and have many different requirements according to each specific certification for ET levels.....

Also, swingouts ARE legal if they are made with the appropriate kit. I mean, a ghetto kit won't cut it....but the ones this car has are legal from what I've seen. The pics don't get close enough for me to see the welds, but if they are good, then it'll be fine.

I laughed at the crossbar kickers as well. I could see if you cut them down and go from hoop to the subframe connectors. But the way they are now is added weight
