I did this swap. Twice. It is 99% plug and play IIRC. My car had the stock '98, followed by a '99, followed by an '02. If you do this, be sure to get a motor with the aluminum crossover on the intake. Also, you will have to drill and tap the crossover for the 2nd water temp sensor (yours has 2, 99+ have 1). There may be a snag with the flywheel. I think the '02 motor used a larger clutch (11" I think). It's one of those things that may or may not be an issue. They had 6-bolt cranks, 8-bolt cranks and 2 clutch sizes. I think that's about it. If you need a hand, let me know. I'm not too far from you.

Thanks bro, I believe somewhere I read the newer had the bigger clutch set up, and also an 8 bolt flywheel? not sure. I'd like to use the 96 tranny and just replace with newer motor if possible. Any info on this working? 5- speed

Yeah, when they swapped over to the TR3650 in 02 they changed the clutch to an 11 inch unit and I think they changed the flywheel but Im not sure. As far as the earlier ones it has the same transmission they used from 96 up. Same clutch and all. I think its actually the same clutch they used in the 5.0's as well.
