quick ? about block id
what are some easy ways to identify if i have a 302 or a 351?
I was told it was a 302 when a picked it up not really knowing much about the motor i just asumed what they told me so today i took the intake manifold off an underneath it on the block say 351W.
Thanks for your help

When looking at the front of the motor,.. the timing cover on a 302 almost reaches the piston deck of the block. The 351 has a few inches of space due to the taller deck. Its a very noticeable difference,.. and once you know what to look for there is no mistaking one for the other.

I usually look for the 'china wall' above the distributor hole. On a 302, the china wall is no more than a quarter inch taller than the distributor boss, almost flush, on a 351, it is about an inch or more.

im pretty sure its a 351 cause someone else was telling me on the intake manifolds the 302 was more round at the back towards the trans and the 351 has more of a point.
mine has the point and i remember there being a space between the waterpump/timing cover and the top of the block.
Thanks for you guys help it is much appreciated and u will be repped
