1) Intake leak
2) Carb needs rebuild. specificly the accelerator pump.
3) intake leak
4) intake leak

Sorry, but this thing screaks "intake leak" to me.

The second thought was accelerator pump on the carb.

Ok, then when was the last time the carb was rebuilt? The car is sucking too much air, not enough fuel....Usual culprit is intake leak. Now that I know it's got new gaskets up top, I find it unlikely that it is an intake leak as far as gaskets are concerned.

So...With that being said, if it's been a while since the carb was rebuilt, then I think it's highly plausable that the accelerator pump is bad on the carb.

The accelerator pump provides the added fuel needed at the moment you press on the acceleartor pedal and open the butterflies which suck more air into the carb. More air in, more fuel needed to get that "perfect" mixture. Is it a Holley? If so, it's easy to replace the accelerator pump.

Its that cheap ass pump thats on there... rumember how the filter wasnt filling up? They have it set up as a puller and that pump cant do it. plan on a better pump. Look for a holley blue or similar and mountit back by the tank

I don't think it's that. If it were, it would be sputtering from the start. He said it works find at idle...But as soon as he gives it gas to go, it sputters and dies....Classic of accelerator pump, not fuel pump. But I could be wrong....

Stealth, what kind of fuel pressure does it have?

I been out there and helped him with the car. Idleing the filter doesnt even fill up 1/4 of the way. Im not guessing, I already had told him this was going to be an issue. Its one of those POS puralator pumps and its mounted in the middle of the car
It a brand newer carb. No issues there

Jeff did you plug off the vacum leak in the front, on the base plate yet??

I can respect that. Thats why I asked when the last time the carb was rebuilt.

Then you mention the "vacume leak" (intake leak) on the base plate.......Ummmm.....Wait..... LOL But yeah, the fuel pump COULD still be it....Unless he hasn't fixed the intake leak yet. Holley blue and a regulator.

It was a small vacum port on the base plate that didnt have a line or plug on it when I seen it. Wasnt causing it to die though, just higher idle.

another thought. do you have rubber fuel lines, if there are any cracks in them it will suck enough air that your car may or may not start and idle, but when you give it gas it sucks and it loses prime I've seen this several times.
